Cobalt Katanga LVT Earns Product-Specific EPD Verification

When specifying materials for demanding commercial environments, project teams need clear data to evaluate both performance and environmental impact. Architects, designers, and contractors need more than marketing claims when making informed material selections. To bridge that gap, Cobalt Katanga is now supported by product-specific Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) published through SCS Global Services. These declarations provide transparent, independently verified lifecycle data that helps project teams evaluate Katanga with greater confidence.

What Is an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD)?

An Environmental Product Declaration, or EPD, is a standardized report based on a product life cycle assessment. It presents measurable information about environmental impacts across defined stages of a product’s life. Those stages may include sourcing, manufacturing, transportation, installation, use, and disposal.

An EPD does not label a product as environmentally superior. Instead, it provides consistent data that teams can review alongside performance, design, budget, and project requirements.

What Does the Katanga LVT EPD Cover?

Katanga is supported by two product-specific, cradle-to-grave EPDs developed for North American markets. Together, these declarations cover several Katanga glue-down and loose lay constructions.

Katanga Luxury Vinyl Tile

The luxury vinyl flooring declaration, SCS-EPD-10650, covers Katanga 2mm and 3mm LVT constructions.

Katanga Loose Lay LVT

The loose lay declaration, SCS-EPD-10649, covers Katanga 4mm and 5mm, which have an attached performance pad and can be glued down or loose laid.

Verification and Validity

Both EPDs became valid on July 2, 2026, and remain valid through July 1, 2031.

The declarations conform to ISO 14025, ISO 14040, ISO 14044, and ISO 21930. They also follow the applicable product category rules for flooring.

Why Does EPD Verification Matter?

Material transparency gives project teams reliable information during product selection. A product-specific EPD makes Katanga’s environmental data accessible through a recognized reporting framework.

This documentation can support sustainability research, specifications, and green building submissions. It also helps teams compare products when declarations use equivalent rules, methods, and scenarios.

Healthcare projects, for example, often require durable materials and detailed product documentation. Katanga combines transparent environmental reporting with performance designed for demanding, high-traffic interiors.

Teams can review the EPD alongside infection control, maintenance, acoustics, safety, and design requirements. This approach supports a complete evaluation without separating sustainability from everyday performance.

High-Performance LVT Designed for Demanding Spaces

Katanga loose lay and glue-down LVT combines contemporary style, durability, and practical installation choices. The collection includes 7-by-48-inch wood visuals and 12-by-24-inch tile visuals.

Standard constructions include 2mm with a 12mil wear layer and 3mm with a 20mil wear layer. A 5mm option adds a 20mil wear layer and an attached performance pad.

The 5mm construction supports loose lay or glue-down installation. Other standard constructions use glue-down installation.

Every standard construction features the protective Cobalt Guard finish. This enhanced surface protection provides added resistance to scratches, scuffs, and indentation.

Katanga is also phthalate-free and 100% recyclable. The collection can contribute to LEED project goals, helping teams pursue broader sustainability objectives.

A More Transparent Choice for Commercial Interiors

Katanga’s product-specific EPDs strengthen the collection’s value for commercial and multifamily projects. They give project teams consistent environmental data from an independently verified source. This documentation is especially valuable in healthcare, education, retail, and hospitality environments where performance and informed material selection matter.

Teams pursuing green building goals can review each declaration alongside applicable project requirements and rating systems. Independently verified environmental data brings greater transparency to Katanga specifications while supporting performance, visual range, and design flexibility.
